In the Vedic tradition we knew since eternity about the value of health and importance of preserving our senses, mind and body until old age. Gradually, the wisdom about health and healing was made into a separate Veda or fifth Veda, called Ayurveda. About eighty five percent of Ayurveda scriptures are on maintaining and preserving health. The 2600 years old scriptures lay emphasis on the management of health. The following citation from Charaka Samhita illustrates our refinement and advancement in ‘body culture’.
