Arya Vaidya Sala Trinaya Wellness Centre - Arya Vaidya Sala Expands with Trinaya Wellness Centre

Arya Vaidya Sala (AVS), the renowned 120-year-old Ayurvedic institution based in Kottakkal, has launched its first franchise-led wellness centre, Trinaya, in Banjara Hills. The move marks a strategic shift from its traditional hospital-based model toward more accessible, urban healthcare formats.

The initiative reflects AVS’s long-standing mission to make authentic Ayurveda more widely available while adapting to changing patient needs.

Why AVS Is Embracing the Franchise Model

According to Managing Trustee and Chief Physician Dr. P. M. Varier, the decision to adopt a franchise model is rooted in the institution’s founding philosophy.

“Our institution was established with the objective of providing classical Ayurvedic treatment as well as authentic medicines to the needy.”

He explained that while AVS has built an extensive ecosystem over the decades—including hospitals, research centres, and manufacturing units—accessibility remained a challenge. The franchise model allows partners to establish infrastructure, while AVS provides trained practitioners and therapists.

“So it is easier for us to reach more people, to give more medical advice and treatment,” he added.

Why Hyderabad Was Chosen

Hyderabad emerged as a natural choice for the first Trinaya centre due to longstanding patient demand.

“From the very old days itself, we have been receiving a lot of patients from Andhra Pradesh… we have got requests to establish a hospital in Hyderabad,” Dr. Varier noted.

The high cost and logistical challenges of setting up a full-fledged hospital had previously delayed expansion, making the franchise format a viable alternative.

A Shift to Non-Residential, Urban Care

Unlike AVS’s traditional hospital model, Trinaya operates as a non-residential wellness centre. Patients can consult doctors, undergo treatments, and return home the same day.

The centre focuses on lifestyle-related and chronic conditions such as joint pain, back pain, neck issues, and nervous disorders—ailments increasingly associated with sedentary urban lifestyles.

CEO K. Harikumar highlighted the rationale behind this approach:

“We thought, why not go where the people are.”

Maintaining Authenticity and Quality

Despite the shift in format, AVS has emphasized that its core principles remain unchanged. Quality control continues to be a top priority across all operations.

“Quality is the main priority for us. We don’t compromise on quality,” Dr. Varier stressed.

All medicines used at Trinaya are produced in-house, with strict checks at every stage—from raw material sourcing to final formulation. Additionally, therapists and practitioners are trained within AVS’s own system to ensure consistency.

This approach also aims to counter imitation and misuse of the AVS name, an issue acknowledged by Dr. Varier.

Addressing Misinformation Around Ayurveda

Beyond treatment, AVS is also focusing on educating the public about authentic Ayurvedic practices in an era of widespread misinformation.

“We are trying to give proper information… and teach patients what real Ayurveda is,” Dr. Varier said, pointing to seminars and outreach initiatives.

A Strategic Yet Measured Expansion

Trinaya represents a careful evolution rather than a departure from tradition. By blending accessibility with strict adherence to its foundational values, AVS aims to scale without diluting its legacy.

The initiative reflects a broader shift in Ayurveda’s role—adapting to modern urban lifestyles while preserving its classical roots.

Conclusion

With the launch of Trinaya in Hyderabad, Arya Vaidya Sala is taking a significant step toward making Ayurveda more accessible to contemporary patients. The success of this model will likely shape how traditional healthcare systems expand in a rapidly changing landscape—balancing growth with authenticity.
