New Kerala Retreat Tulåh Combines Ancient Ayurveda and Modern Diagnostics

A new wellness destination, Tulåh Clinical Wellness, has opened in Kerala, offering a blend of traditional Ayurveda and modern medical diagnostics within a large-scale retreat setting. Located near Kozhikode along the foothills of the Western Ghats, the property combines holistic therapies with advanced clinical infrastructure.
Spread across 30 acres, the retreat has been developed as a “clinical wellness” centre, integrating ancient healing systems with contemporary healthcare technologies.
Vision rooted in personal experience
The project has been developed by Faizal Kottikollon, a Kerala-born industrialist and philanthropist. His vision for Tulåh emerged after he experienced spinal cord compression and sought alternatives to surgery.
“Rather than choosing sides, I brought neurologists, physiotherapists and Ayurveda physicians together,” Kottikollon said, describing a treatment plan that combined physiotherapy, Ayurveda, and yoga. He added that improvements in his condition following this approach inspired the concept behind Tulåh.
The retreat’s name, derived from Sanskrit, reflects the idea of balance between traditional and modern medicine.
Design and infrastructure
The architecture of Tulåh, designed by Dubai-based Lami Architects, features a futuristic aesthetic with curved structures and expansive glass façades. The design draws inspiration from the late architect Zaha Hadid, known for fluid and sculptural forms.
The central hub houses wellness facilities, a main dining space, and 35 of the total 65 rooms, alongside large courtyards. The campus-style layout is intended to create a self-contained environment for treatment and recovery.
Integration of Ayurveda and modern diagnostics
Tulåh’s approach combines Ayurvedic consultations with allopathic assessments. Guests undergo evaluations by both Ayurveda practitioners and medical doctors, with personalised programmes developed through collaboration between teams.
The facility includes advanced diagnostic tools such as MRI scans, mammograms, and metabolic testing, along with technologies for pain management and rehabilitation, including shockwave therapy and high-intensity laser treatments.
It also houses an FDA-approved brain stimulation system for neurological and mental health conditions, alongside an operating theatre and intensive care unit, positioning it differently from traditional wellness retreats.
Data from diagnostic tests is consolidated into a proprietary system known as the “Tulåh Life Index,” which assesses physical, mental, and emotional health to guide treatment plans.
Range of therapies and wellness programmes
The retreat offers a mix of clinical and holistic therapies. Ayurvedic treatments include traditional massages and therapies adapted with modern equipment, such as a heated Vichy shower bed designed to enhance comfort during treatments.
Other offerings include yoga, physiotherapy, sound healing sessions in a dedicated dome called the Sonorium, and psychological consultations. Fitness assessments and mobility training are also part of the programmes.
Diet plans are customised by in-house nutritionists, combining local Kerala cuisine with global dishes adapted to individual health requirements.
Facilities, accommodation and pricing
Tulåh features 65 rooms designed in a contemporary style, along with amenities such as a large swimming pool, sports facilities, and wellness spaces.
A seven-night programme is priced from approximately £9,434 on a single-occupancy basis, including treatments, nutrition plans, and accommodation.
The retreat also maintains access to a network of over 200 medical professionals at a nearby private hospital developed by Kottikollon, ensuring extended clinical support if required.
Location and setting
Situated near the biodiversity-rich Western Ghats, a UNESCO-recognised hotspot, the retreat benefits from proximity to a region known for its medicinal plant diversity. The natural surroundings are positioned as part of the overall healing environment.
Conclusion
Tulåh Clinical Wellness represents a growing trend in India’s wellness sector, where traditional systems such as Ayurveda are being combined with modern diagnostics and infrastructure. By integrating clinical care with holistic therapies, the retreat aims to offer a comprehensive approach to long-term health and wellbeing.
