Haryana Strengthens AYUSH Sector as CM Promotes Ayurveda and Yoga Initiatives

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has described Ayurveda as “the most sustainable system of care” for managing lifestyle-related diseases driven by modern living, including stress, diabetes and hypertension.
Addressing the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Dhanwantri Ayurvedic College and Hospital in Chandigarh, Saini emphasized that Ayurveda promotes a holistic balance encompassing physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
“The system ensures a holistic balance of physical, mental and spiritual well-being,” he said, underlining its relevance in today’s fast-paced lifestyle.
Golden Jubilee Celebrations Mark Key Announcements
The Chief Minister inaugurated a newly constructed academic block during the program and released a scientific journal. He also honoured dignitaries associated with the institution and congratulated BAMS students for their strong academic performance.
The event brought together stakeholders from the AYUSH ecosystem, highlighting the growing institutional support for traditional medicine in India.
Haryana Expands AYUSH Infrastructure
Saini noted that the Haryana government is actively strengthening the AYUSH sector through infrastructure upgrades, research promotion, and increased opportunities for practitioners.
A major highlight is the establishment of Krishna AYUSH University in Kurukshetra, developed at an estimated cost of ₹500 crore. The Dhanwantri Ayurvedic College is affiliated with this university.
He also shared that AYUSH wings have been set up in all districts under the National Health Mission, with yoga experts appointed to promote preventive healthcare.
Grassroots Expansion and Recruitment Drive
To strengthen outreach at the grassroots level, the state has recruited 572 AYUSH medical officers.
Additionally:
400 Ayurvedic dispensaries and 138 sub-health centres have been upgraded into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AYUSH)
Panchakarma centres are being established in every district
The Chief Minister also highlighted ongoing and completed infrastructure projects, including the Baba Khetanath Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital in Narnaul, along with institutions under development in Nuh, Ambala, Hisar, and Panchkula.
Yoga Promotion Gains Momentum
Highlighting the global rise of yoga, Saini credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for spearheading its international recognition, including the declaration of International Yoga Day.
The Haryana government is expanding yoga access in rural areas by setting up yoga and vyayamshalas across 6,500 villages. So far, 965 facilities are operational, with work underway on 139 more.
Message to Students and Future Practitioners
Addressing students, the Chief Minister encouraged them to carry forward Ayurveda’s legacy while aligning it with modern advancements.
He stressed the importance of innovation, dedication, and research-driven progress to ensure the continued relevance and evolution of the ancient system.
