Rajasthan Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy University Bill passed in Assembly

The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly has passed the Rajasthan Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy University, Ajmer Bill, 2026, clearing the way for the establishment of a new state university in Ajmer. The bill was approved through a voice vote on Monday.
Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani stated that Ajmer will receive its second state university after a gap of 38 years under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. He described the initiative as the fulfillment of a long-awaited demand.
During the discussion on the bill, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy Prem Chand Bairwa said the state government is taking significant steps to strengthen healthcare services alongside traditional systems of medicine.
He called the establishment of the university in Ajmer a historic move that will support the vision of building a “Healthy Rajasthan for a Prosperous Rajasthan.” The proposal for the university was first announced in the state budget for the 2024–25 financial year.
The new institution will enhance higher education and research opportunities in traditional medical systems while creating fresh prospects for students and scholars. It is expected to develop into a centre of excellence for studies related to traditional Indian medicine.
The university will promote education and research in Ayurveda, Unani, Yoga, Naturopathy, and Homeopathy, while also encouraging innovation in India’s traditional healthcare practices. A separate notification will later define the university’s jurisdiction.
As per the Act, the university will include several governing bodies such as the Board of Management, Academic Council, Faculty Board, Board of Studies, Finance and Accounts Committee, Research Council, Sports and Student Welfare Committee, and Innovation Council.
The Board of Management will be formed after the Chancellor appoints the Vice-Chancellor. The Faculty Board will supervise academic programs in Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy, and related disciplines in accordance with the principles of the National Education Policy 2020.
Minister Bairwa also informed the Assembly that 11.93 hectares of land from the campus of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University in Ajmer has been allocated for establishing the new university.
