Charlie Evans - US Travel Creator Praises Indian Healthcare After Recovery in Rishikesh, Calls It ‘Far Superior’ to the West

An American travel content creator has gone viral on social media after sharing his experience with India’s healthcare system and describing it as more accessible and effective than many Western models.

Charlie Evans, who has been travelling across India for several months, posted a video recounting how he recovered from an illness while staying in Rishikesh. In the clip, Evans said his experience with local pharmacies, traditional remedies and modern medical care changed his perception of healthcare.

The video has since garnered more than 200,000 views and hundreds of comments online.

Illness During Rajasthan Trip Led to Hospital Visit

Evans explained in the video that he had been living in India for around 148 days when he fell ill during his travels in Rajasthan.

Suspecting he had strep throat, he initially delayed seeking treatment. Later, after returning to Rishikesh, he visited a hospital twice while recovering.

“I am an American and I have been living in India for the past 148 days. In the past week, I have been to the hospital twice,” he said in the video.

Reflecting on the experience, Evans described waiting to seek treatment as a mistake and said he found healthcare services in India relatively easy to access.

Praises Ayurveda and Over-the-Counter Remedies

During his recovery, Evans said he purchased Ayurvedic lozenges known as Yogi Kanthika from a pharmacy and used them to soothe his throat. He also highlighted cough drops available locally, noting that they felt more natural compared with similar products he had used in the United States.

The content creator also spoke about the role of traditional remedies in everyday healthcare in India. According to him, several Indian friends recommended herbal treatments and home remedies that helped ease his symptoms.

“When you live in India, you have Indian friends who give you an herbal remedy like this… It is just a natural Vicks,” Evans said in the video.

He added that the coexistence of traditional practices and modern medicine stood out during his recovery.

“What an Eye-Opener,” Says Creator

In the caption accompanying the video, Evans described the experience as transformative.

“Indian medicine is truly god-tier. First time getting sick in India, and wow, what an eye-opener! From comforting home remedies, Ayurveda and modern meds, everything worked together to get me back on my feet fast,” he wrote.

Evans said the integration of herbal treatments, Ayurvedic products and modern medical care created a unique healthcare experience that differed from what he had encountered in Western countries.

Social Media Reacts to Viral Video

The video sparked discussion across social media platforms, where many users shared their views on India’s healthcare system.

Several commenters echoed Evans’ observations about accessibility and affordability. Others highlighted the availability of multiple medical systems in India, including Ayurveda, homeopathy and allopathic medicine.

Some users also pointed out that the ability to access pharmacies and hospitals without lengthy waiting periods is a key advantage for many patients.

The discussion reflects broader interest online in how different healthcare systems operate, particularly as international travellers increasingly share their experiences across digital platforms.
