Land Allotted for AYUSH Centre of Excellence in Chandigarh

In a major step toward strengthening traditional healthcare systems, the Chandigarh Administration has allocated 4.8 acres of land in Sector 48 for the establishment of a Government AYUSH Institute, which will function as a Centre of Excellence.
The development is being seen as a significant push for structured growth in India’s traditional medicine systems, particularly Ayurveda and Homeopathy.
Announcement and Political Backing
The announcement was made by Jitendra Pal Malhotra, Chandigarh State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who described the project as long-pending and now realized through coordinated efforts.
He attributed the progress to sustained follow-ups by the party, guidance from the Central Government, and support from the local administration.
Focus on Education, Research and Integration
The proposed institute will focus on education, research, and development in Ayurveda and Homeopathy, with an emphasis on integrating these traditional systems with modern healthcare practices.
Officials indicate that the initiative aligns with the broader vision of Narendra Modi to strengthen and globally promote AYUSH systems in a structured manner.
The facility is expected to include advanced research laboratories, specialised training centres, outpatient department (OPD) services, and public awareness programmes aimed at expanding knowledge and adoption of traditional medicine.
Affordable Education and Wider Access
According to Malhotra, the institute will offer AYUSH education at minimal government fees, making it more accessible to students, especially those from economically weaker sections.
The move is expected to widen participation in traditional medicine education and create a more inclusive learning environment.
Boost to Chandigarh’s Healthcare and Education Landscape
The upcoming institute is likely to enhance Chandigarh’s position as an emerging hub for Ayurveda and Homeopathy education, research, and professional training.
Authorities expect the centre to attract students, researchers, and healthcare professionals from across the country, while also generating new employment opportunities in the sector.
The foundation stone for the institute is expected to be laid soon by a senior central government leader, including the Union Health Minister.
